Natural ice season is just around the corner, and we want to share how the Seton HOA team builds, maintains, and monitors our outdoor rinks throughout the winter.
Natural ice depends entirely on cold weather — typically a full week of temperatures below -10°C is needed before we can even begin creating a strong base. From there, our team builds the rink layer by layer, monitoring temperatures, sunlight, and ice thickness every step of the way. Because we rely on natural freezing (not a chiller system), progress can vary depending on daily conditions.
Once the season begins, ice quality can change quickly with sun exposure or warm days. Our staff continuously checks conditions, closes the rinks when needed for safety, and rebuilds the ice after melts when temperatures drop again.
As always, the length of the skating season depends on weather patterns. If warm conditions persist and too much ice is lost, the season may end early.
We’ll share updates as soon as the weather is cold enough to begin building. Thank you for your patience as we wait for the right conditions for safe, high-quality ice!
